8th Green Flag... Action Litter Day !
We are working towards our 8th Green Flag, Global Citizenship and the Marine Environment. 70% of the surface of the earth is covered by our oceans and seas. The remainder is fresh water. The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean in the world. Our Marine Environment is threatened by pollution, over fishing, marine litter (plastic, discarded fishing equipment, oil pollution, off shore mining, commercial shipping, and human activity) By 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish if we do not change our behaviour. Our rivers and lakes are a very important connection between the freshwater environment and the marine environment. All rivers flow into the sea.
